Prepare your heart for the Sermon by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of our time together hearing God's Word.

You will find suggestions for thinking more critically through the passage, meditating more intently on the text, and prayerfully seeking wisdom to deepen your understanding of the passage to be preached this Sunday.

Carefully Think

  • Read through 1 Corinthians 8:1-13, focusing on 7-13 for this Sunday's sermon.
  • Recall from last week the knowledge that Paul is referring to in verse 7 with "this knowledge." How is that knowledge defiling a conscience? Whose conscience is it?
  • What right is Paul referring to in verse 8? How can a right become a stumbling block to the weak? Look at the following "for" to see the reason.
  • In verse 12 what is Paul saying you are doing if you wound a weaker conscience through your right?
  • What does Paul do with his rights to protect his weaker brother?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What knowledge and rights do you have that can be a stumbling block to others in the area of worship and idolatry?
  • How have you stumbled because of others sinfully abusing their rights?
  • Have you ever caused a weaker Christian to stumble in your arrogance due to your knowledge?
  • Have you recovered from the stumbling that was caused?
  • Have you ever forgiven someone who caused you to stumble?
  • What are you willing to do with your rights for the building up of others?
