Our Resurrection Weekend services begin with our Good Friday Evening Gathering, March 29 at 7:00 pm, and conclude with our regular Sunday activities on Resurrection Sunday Morning, March 31!

Carefully Think

  • Read Obadiah 1:1-21 (the whole book).
  • Who is this prophecy about? Who is it actually delivered to?
  • Read Genesis 25; 27; 28:6-9; 32:3; 36:1 for some background on where Edom comes from.
  • What did Edom think of themselves (1:2-9)?
  • What did Edom do with Jerusalem/Judah (1:10-14)?
  • What would God's response be to Edom (1:15-18)?
  • What would God's response to his own people be (1:19-21)?
  • What do you learn about the day of the Lord from this book?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • What is Edom's relationshp to the other nations that oppose God and his people (1:15-16)?
  • What characteristics in Obadiah are described that comprise a nation that becomes the enemy of God?
  • How would this message be a comfort and help to God's people?
  • What do you learn from this book as to when God will correct and bring justice for all of the wrong that other nations do to God's people?
  • How would this book assist us in thinking about nations of our world (even our own nation) standing in opposition to God and his people?
  • What are the appopriate responses of God's people to nations who oppose God, His truth, and the people who hold to his truth?

Intentionally Act

  • How does Obadiah help you to pray specifically for our nation, its leaders, and those who do not share our allegiance to Christ?
  • How should your actions and attitudes towards those who stand in opposition to God change or be helped as a result of reading Obadiah?
  • How could this book assist you in praying for non-Christians who are in your life? Pray for them now specifically. Pray for non-Christians who will be present this Sunday to respond appropriately to God's word.
  • How should this book impact our congregation as a whole? Pray that God will prepare our hearts for his work of grace this Sunday as we gather.
  • Pray for those who will be leading our gathering to edify the body well: Dawson Bryant, music; Todd Arnold, Elders' Prayer and Scripture Reading; Bret Capranica, teaching.
  • Listen to the songs we will be singing together and meditate on the message of each song. Prepare yourself to sing together with the church on the Lord's Day.
