Carefully Think

  • Read Micah 1-7 in one sitting.
  • What are the major themes that run thoughout this book?
  • Where is Moresheth and what is the time frame of this book in relation to the exile of Israel to Assyria [2 Kings 16-17]?
  • Who are the recipients of the prophecy?
  • What is the coming judgment and is there any hope for God's people?
  • What is the false hope of the people?  Read Micah 3:9-12
  • What does the Lord expect from His people? Read Micah 6:6-8.  How are those expectations different than what he expected of Israel when he called them out of Egypt and gave them the ten commandments through Moses?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • How can our false hope be similar to that found in Micah 3:9-12?
  • How do God's expectations of the church today compare with expectations of Israel in the time of Micah?
  • What comfort can we take from Micah and how are we sure that we have that comfort?
  • How are God's expectations different than the greatest two commandments given by Jesus in the New Testament [Matthew 22:37-40)?
  • What attributes of God can we also take hold of as a promise that we see in Micah 7:18-20?
  • Consider what Micah 5:2-5 promises about the coming Messiah. How does Jesus fulfill this prophecy and how does it presently impact you?

Intentionally Act

  • How does this book help you to see sin in your life and God's pending judgment for you if you do not know Christ?  What should be your response?  Pray for specific repentance of sin and delight in the steadfast love and forgiveness found in Christ Jesus.
  • How can we act in response to God's expectations?  Pray God would give insight and opportunity for you to act according to His expectations.
  • How could this book assist you in praying for non-Christians who are in your life? Pray for them now specifically. Pray for non-Christians who will be present this Sunday to respond appropriately to God's word.
  • How should this book impact our congregation as a whole? Pray that God will prepare our hearts for his work of grace this Sunday as we gather.
  • Pray for those who will be leading our gathering to edify the body well: Joel Conrad, music; Todd Arnold, Corporate Prayer and Scripture Reading; Bret Capranica, teaching.
  • Listen to the songs we will be singing together and meditate on the message of each song. Prepare yourself to sing together with the church on the Lord's Day.
