Our Resurrection Weekend services begin with our Good Friday Evening Gathering, March 29 at 7:00 pm, and conclude with our regular Sunday activities on Resurrection Sunday Morning, March 31!

Carefully Think

  • Read Matthew 11:20-24. How would you sum this section up in one sentence?
  • Read Matthew 11:25-30. How would you sum this section up in one sentence? How do these two sections relate to one another? How do they complement 11:1-19?
  • This is the only occasion in the New Testament that "Chorazin" is mentioned. Find Bethsaida, Tyre, Sidon, Sodom, and Capernaum on a map in the back of your Bible. What is so significant about the comparisons between these cities?
  • What do you remember about Sodom's spiritual character (Genesis 18-19)? What does Jesus' comparison with them say about the spiritual condition of Capernaum?
  • What do Jesus' comments in 11:20-24 suggest about the vast crowds following him in Galilee?
  • What does Jesus thank his Father for (11:25-26)? What relationship does Jesus have with the Father and what relationship does Jesus have with those who believe?
  • Who do "little children" refer to? Who are the "wise and understanding?"
  • According to this passage, who is it that will know the Father? How do they come to know him? Why?
  • How does Jesus reconcile his sovereign choice regarding those he reveals the Father to, and the call for all to come to him?
  • What is a "yoke" and why would Jesus refer to following him with this terminology?
  • According to this passage, what should motivate anyone to take up the "yoke" of following Christ?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • How do your motivations for following Christ match with what Christ says, about himself, should motivate us?
  • Who are those who are laboring and heavy laden? What does Christ mean by "rest?"
  • How would this entire passage (11:20-30) help you to pray for those who do not know Christ?
  • Why should all of this passage encourage a greater confidence in sharing the gospel with non-Christians?

Intentionally Act

  • Pray, according to what you learn in this passage, for those in your life who do not know Christ.
  • How could this passage influence a time of thanksgiving from you to your heavenly Father?
  • Who will you look to confidently share the gospel with this week, because of the confidence you have in Christ?
  • Pray for those who will be attending this Sunday who are not Christians. Pray that they will see the gospel in the congregation, hear the gospel in the prayers and music, and be convicted by the gospel through the message on Sunday. Pray that they will respond in repentance and faith.
  • Pray for Christians who are present to be encouraged in their walk with Christ and convicted to continue living faithfully to Christ. Pray that believers will demonstrate mutual affirmation of one another this week in refreshing ways.
  • Pray for those who will be leading the service this Sunday, that they will serve in the most edifying way: Dawson Bryant, music; Brandon Ferguson, Elders' Prayer and Scripture Reading; Bret Capranica, teaching.
  • Listen to the music we will sing together and prepare your heart to sing with understanding and fervor this Sunday.
