Our Resurrection Weekend services begin with our Good Friday Evening Gathering, March 29 at 7:00 pm, and conclude with our regular Sunday activities on Resurrection Sunday Morning, March 31!

Carefully Think

  • Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5
  • How does Paul describe God's wisdom and what role does preaching play in it?
  • What do Jews and Greeks seek in distinction from what believers seek (1:22-23)?
  • What is Christ to those who believe (1:24).
  • What characterized Paul's preaching when he came to the city of Corinth (2:1, 4)?
  • What did Paul avoid in his preaching (2:1, 4)?
  • What was it tha Paul wanted most for the Corinthians?
  • Why did Paul preach the way he did (2:5)?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • How would you describe the purpose of preaching?
  • What are you looking for and expecting most from a sermon each Sunday?
  • In what ways do we see preaching that is given to "lofty speech or wisdom"?
  • What would a sermons consist of that was characterized by "demonstration of the Spirit and of power"?
  • How are you preparing your heart so that you share the biblical expectations of preaching expressed in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5?
  • What tends to shape your heart to have less biblical expectations of any given sermon?

Intentionally Act

  • Consider how you are preparing to listen to this week's (or any week's sermon). What would contribute to you having the best possible mindset and expectations for listening to preaching each week?
  • What needs to change in your routine on Saturday evening and Sunday morning so that you are prepared to be impacted by God's Word?
  • In light of this passage, how could you specifically pray for those who preach the word each week?
  • Pray for those who will be leading the service this week: Dawson Bryant, music; Sam Karl, Elders' Prayer and Scripture Reading; Bret Capranica, teaching.
  • Meditate on the lyrics of the songs we will sing. How do they prepare your heart to hear God's word preached? Pray through the lyrics and listen to them in anticipation of singing with the church this Sunday.
