preparing 20170326 post

On Sunday, March 26, 2017, we examined scripture together in our sermon: Homosexuality, the Bible and Us.

To provide you with further resources in learning how to respond biblically, and engage our culture faithfully in regard to the issue of homosexuality, here are some helpful resources you may want to make use of:

"50 Resources for Equipping the Church on Homosexuality and Same Sex Marriage." You will find very helpful online articles produced by writers assoicate with the Gospel Coalition.

"Talking to Your Children About Sex, Marriage, and Same Sex Marriage." A helpful article published by the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.

We Cannot Be Silent, Albert Mohler. Helpful analysis of how our culture has come to the point of embracing same-sex marriage and how Christians should respond.

Messy Grace, Caleb Kaltenbach. This contains the story that I referenced at the beginning of the book. While I would likely approach a few things differently in how some of the biblical passages are used, it is a helpful testimony of God’s grace and encouragement to engage those in a homosexual lifestyle with convictional kindness.

The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert, Rosaria Champagne Butterfield. A well-written and engaging testimony of God’s saving grace of one who was not only involved in a lesbian relationship, but who was an activist in the homosexual movement. This is a powerful example and strong word of exhortation.

Openness Unhindered: Further Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert on Sexual Identity and Union with Christ. Rosaria Butterfield. Another well-written book that tackles the pertinent issues being debated on sexual identity.

What Does the Bible Really Teach About Homosexuality? Kevin DeYoung. A very well written review of the Scriptural passages that deal with homosexuality as well as excellent responses to objections and frequently asked questions on this topic.

Is God anti-gay? Sam Allberry. A short and very helpful guide to Christians wanting an overview on answering this question written not only from wise biblical understanding, but personal experience.

God, Marriage, and Family: Rebuilding the Biblical Foundation, Andreas J. Kostenberger. Written by the pen of a scholar and the grace of a wise shepherd, Kostenberger not only deals with issues related to sexual identity, but gender, family, marriage and what God’s word says on all of it. A comprehensive resource.

God’s Design for Man and Woman: A Biblical Theological Survey, Andreas J Kostenberger and Margaret Elizabeth Kostenberger. Husband and wife team up to provide excellent biblical instruction and historical background to issues on male and female relationships and ministry.

Onward: Engaging the Culture without Losing the Gospel, Russell Moore. While not exclusively about homosexuality, this book will provide a helpful and gospel-motivating approach to engage a secular culture in a biblically faithful manner.
