This Sunday morning, the worship team will introduce a new song for our corporate gatherings. One of the values that drive the selection, arrangement, and production of our music, is that what we sing will be scripturally driven. This emphasis was behind the writing of But God, by Michael Bleecker, as he puts Ephesians 2:4-7 and 1 Peter 2:9 to verse and melody. May this song strengthen our understanding of the grace by which we were saved, the mercy we experience, and the salvation we have in Christ!

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved – and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7

Lyrics

Verse 1
Oh how great the weight of sin that lured my wicked soul
Bound with chains and numb to every hope
Oh how vast the void of love, the darkness of despair
My hell bound home assured

Chorus 1
But God rich in mercy made a way
By grace I have been saved
Through faith I have been raised
Only by the blood of Christ

Verse 2
Oh how great the sacrifice the Father made for me
Freedom flowing from the battered King
Oh how vast the love of God
But still my soul it wars, against the powers of dark

Chorus 2
But God rich in mercy made a way
By grace I have been saved
Through faith I have been raised
Only by the blood of Christ

Bridge
We were called from the dark
But now we stand in glory's light
Jesus Savior King
